As the one of the newest members of the Product Team at Avvo.com, I am still learning the ropes.

Recently, I discovered in real life how Avvo really can “take the fear out of legal”.

A few weeks ago, my mom was injured in a parking lot. Luckily, she’s on the mend: a little shaken up and some bruises, but nothing too major. Still, there will be medical expenses. When I was on the phone with my dad a couple of days after the incident, I asked him if they considered hiring a personal injury lawyer—something I never would have asked my parents before I started working here. The conversation could have almost been a commercial for Avvo. My dad was concerned about finding someone to help them or if it was even worth consulting someone, saying “I have questions but I don’t know how to determine if it’s worth the trouble of a lawyer” and “How can I tell who the best lawyers in our area are?”

Even though we were discussing a stressful topic on the phone, I started smiling. I told my dad to visit Avvo.com and check out the Q&A section as well as the list of lawyers in their neighborhood. It felt great to be able to provide the right answer in the right moment, and to be able to help my family when they needed it.

It is easy to say that we here at Avvo are in business to help the consumer. But it’s pretty awesome when those consumers are my parents. :)

I think I’ll enjoy working here.

A year ago I needed an attorney and did not know where to turn. My previous experience left me feeling grossly underrepresented and like my family’s money was wasted. I asked a friend if she knew someone. She asked around and Joe Lobosco from the Avvo team came highly recommended. From the consultation, I knew that I’d been referred to someone of quality and detail – I was completely confident that his abilities would be excellent. From the beginning and through numerous trips to court, his representation was a calming force for me. If I have any legal questions at all, in the future, I will call on him, knowing that he’d point me in the right direction.
